Buying a used Voge: the checklist, with model-specific points
What to check before buying a second-hand Voge: papers and service stamps against the factory schedule, recalls, a cold start, chain, brakes, tyres and steering, and the known weak points of each model.
A used Voge is checked in the same order as any motorcycle: papers first, then the bike cold, then a test ride. What is specific to Voge is the service schedule the stamps should match, and a short list of known points on some models. Everything below comes from the owner manuals and the owner reports collected on this site.
Papers and service history
- Frame number. It should match the registration document. The owner manual shows where it is stamped.
- Service stamps. The first service is due at 1,000 km and the following ones every 6,000 km (7,000, 13,000, 19,000 km and so on), or after the time limit, whichever comes first. Coolant and brake fluid have a two-year limit regardless of distance. The maintenance schedule lists what each service covers, and the maintenance calculator shows which one the bike should have had at its mileage.
- Invoices. Ask for the original purchase invoice and the service invoices. A warranty claim depends on both.
- Recalls. Check the frame number against the recall databases described in Voge recalls.
- Modifications. Ask about any ECU remap, exhaust or wiring change. A remap ends the relevant part of the warranty.
The motorcycle, cold
Ask the seller not to start the engine before you arrive.
- Key on. The warning lights should come on and then go out after starting; what each one means is in Voge dashboard warning lights.
- Cold start and idle. The engine should start without long cranking and settle at the idle speed the manual prints, listed in idle speeds.
- Chain and sprockets. Check slack and wear as described in chain tension and lubrication. Scooters with a CVT, such as the SR4 Max and SR450X, use a belt instead; ask when it was last inspected.
- Brakes. Pad thickness against the wear groove, and the discs, as in brake pads.
- Tyres. Sizes should match the manual, listed in Voge tyre sizes. Check the date code on the sidewall and the tread.
- Coolant. Level between the marks and no leaks, see coolant check.
- Steering head. With the front wheel off the ground, turn the bars lock to lock: no notch in the centre and no play when the fork legs are pushed and pulled.
- Lights and switches. Every bulb, indicator, horn and switch; bulb types are in Voge bulb specifications.
On the test ride
Check that every gear engages cleanly and stays engaged under load, that the throttle responds without a dead zone, and that the ABS and, where fitted, traction control warning lights stay off. Brake firmly once from moderate speed. After the ride, look again for leaks and listen for noises that follow road speed rather than engine speed, which point to wheel bearings or the final drive.
Model-specific points
Models not listed here have no recurring weak point in the reports we have found. That is not a guarantee: the general checks above still apply.
