Voge SR450X CVT belt and variator service
How often the SR450X drive belt and rollers are inspected, the wear limits from the Loncin service manual, the removal order and the three pulley nut torques.
Tools
- Pulley holding tool
- Torque wrench
- Calliper and straightedges
Parts
- Drive belt 1004 x 27 x 13.4 mm
- Weight rollers
- Breather screen seal strip
- Flat washers for the pulley nuts
The service manual asks for the SR450X drive belt and weight rollers to be inspected and cleaned every 5,000 km or five months, and for the belt to be replaced at 10,000 km at the latest. That is stricter than the 6,000 km service rhythm in the owner manual, so the belt is best checked at every service and the 10,000 km replacement planned ahead.
The SR450X uses a dry centrifugal clutch and a CVT with a primary ratio of 0.692-2.618. The work below needs a pulley holding tool and a torque wrench rated to 180 Nm; without them it is a dealer job.
Wear limits
| Part | Standard | Service limit |
|---|---|---|
| Belt width, Bando belt | 26-27.2 mm | 25 mm |
| Belt width, Gates belt | 26.7-27.3 mm | 25.7 mm |
| Weight roller outer diameter | 25.9-26.1 mm | 25.4 mm |
| Sliding face sleeve outer diameter | 35-35.025 mm | 34.96 mm |
Belt width is measured with straightedges laid across the belt at several points. A belt with cracks across the teeth, broken cogs or peeling layers is replaced regardless of its width. Rollers are cleaned at each inspection and replaced as a set when worn.
Removal order
- Remove the breather chamber outer cover and the breather filter screen.
- Remove the left crankcase cover.
- Fit the holding tool, then remove the drive pulley nut and its washers.
- Remove the fixed drive face.
- Remove the clutch shoe assembly together with the belt.
- Remove the sliding drive face sleeve and the sliding drive face assembly.
- Remove the ramp plate and its side piece, then the weight rollers.
- Remove the clutch friction disc nut and washer, then the friction disc.
Installation is the reverse of removal.
Points to watch on reassembly
- Clean the pulley faces with a degreasing cleaner and wipe the tapered faces dry. Oil or grease on the belt path causes slip.
- Clean the breather screen and fit a new seal strip.
- Clean the needle bearing in the clutch shoe assembly and coat it with grease rated above 150 degrees C.
- Fit the belt with its printed side facing outward.
- Replace the flat washers under the pulley nuts.
- If the crankshaft seal rings are replaced, grease their grooves with lithium grease.
Torque figures
| Fastener | Torque |
|---|---|
| Drive pulley nut | 100 Nm |
| Clutch bell (friction disc) nut | 180 Nm |
| Driven pulley clutch shoe assembly nut | 100 Nm |
| Left crankcase (CVT) cover bolts | 10-12 Nm |
The owner manual gives the two pulley nuts as 100 +/- 7 Nm and the cover bolts as 11 +/- 1 Nm; the service manual gives no figure for the cover bolts. The full list is on the SR450X torque specifications page.
