Voge DS900X odometer reset after a dealer update: what to do
A reported case of a DS900X instrument losing its recorded mileage during a firmware update, how it was resolved under warranty, and the record to make before any dash is flashed.
A single report. It is not a mechanical fault, but it is an expensive one to resolve after the event, and the preparation that prevents it takes two minutes.
What was reported
A DS900X had a firmware update applied at a dealer, and the odometer afterwards read 0 km. Voge replaced the instrument under warranty and the recorded mileage was reinstated.
The important part of that account is the outcome: the case was resolved through the warranty rather than left with the owner. It is a documentation problem, not a mechanical one.
Why the reading matters
The odometer is the figure a buyer, an insurer and a warranty assessor all rely on. A motorcycle whose recorded mileage has returned to zero, however innocently, becomes harder to sell and awkward to explain, and the explanation rests entirely on what the owner can evidence.
The maintenance plan compounds this. Services fall due on distance or time, whichever arrives first, so an instrument that has lost its total leaves no record of where the motorcycle stands in that schedule. The plan itself is in what Voge asks for at each service.
The record to make before any instrument is flashed
- Photograph the instrument with the odometer legible, and with the date visible in the frame if that is possible.
- Enter the reading in the service record and have the dealer stamp it.
- Ask for the mileage to be written on the job sheet before work begins.
Where the reading comes back wrong, the owner then holds dated evidence and the dealer holds a record of the same figure. That combination turns a warranty conversation into a formality rather than a dispute.
What is not a reset
Two ordinary behaviours are sometimes mistaken for this fault.
The trip meter returning to zero. The trip meter is reset deliberately from the instrument menu, and it is separate from the total. A total that is intact with a trip at zero is the system working normally.
A blank display after battery work. Disconnecting the battery clears the stored tyre pressures, the clock and the phone pairing, but not the recorded total. Those cases are set out in battery removal and what it resets.
