Voge SR4 Max problems: what owners report, and what is known about each

Every SR4 Max fault and complaint we have found in owner reports, from the traction control and clutch take-up to drive noise, the dashcam and the rear light, with how often each comes up and what the dealer or manual says.

4 min readStatus: Reported

These are owner reports, not faults confirmed by Voge. Most of them come from a small number of owners, and several were resolved by the dealer or disappeared with mileage. The table says how often each one appears in the sources we have read.

At a glance

Problem How often reported What is known
Traction control cuts in abruptly Several owners Behaves as the manual describes; see below
Fuel gauge moves unevenly Several owners The manual calls it normal; use the 3 L warning
Clutch take-up shudders at low revs Several owners Service item of the belt, rollers and clutch
Rattle under acceleration One owner Dealer put it down to the belt bedding in
Final drive gear noise on rough roads One owner Gears replaced under warranty
Runs as if flooded, slow to stop when hot One owner, at 700 km Dealer attributed it to the traction control
Dashcam does not record One owner Starts recording if the engine is started before the screen finishes loading
Half of the rear LED light goes out One owner, after about three years Part replaced, about 153 euro plus labour
App setup and login One owner Account changes confuse the app

Traction control, fuel gauge and clutch

These three are the complaints that recur. None has been linked to a mechanical failure, and the manual explains each one in more detail than the owner accounts suggest. The full explanation is in SR4 Max traction control, fuel gauge and clutch take-up.

A clutch that shudders as it takes up is usually a sign that the belt, rollers and clutch shoes need inspection. What to look for with the case open is in SR4 Max belt and variator service.

Noises from the drive

One owner described a rattle under acceleration, like a marble bouncing in a container, that grew louder over time. The dealer put it down to the drive belt bedding in. Another owner, at 4,500 km, reported gear noise from the rear wheel on rough roads, and the dealer replaced the final drive gears under warranty because it judged the tolerances out of specification. A later owner at about 28,000 km reported no drive noise.

A noise that changes with road speed rather than engine speed points to the final drive or wheel bearing; a noise that changes with engine speed points to the belt and variator.

Running, the dashcam and the rear light

  • Runs as if flooded when hot. At 700 km, one owner found the engine running roughly on the centre stand and slow to stop after a blip of the throttle. The dealer attributed it to the traction control intervening with the rear wheel spinning in the air. Running the engine on the stand with the rear wheel free is not a fair test of the system.
  • Dashcam not recording. One owner found the camera recorded only when the engine was started before the screen had finished starting up. A later owner reported that the camera worked normally, so this may depend on the software version.
  • Rear LED. After about three years, the right half of one owner's rear light stopped working while the indicator still worked. The dealer quoted about 153 euro for the part plus at least two hours of labour.
  • App. One owner found the Voge app hard to set up and found that it stopped recognising him after a change of account. How the two connections work is in Voge Bluetooth pairing.

Before taking it to the dealer

Note the mileage, the conditions and whether the problem follows engine speed or road speed. A short video with sound helps more than a description. Several of the faults above were fixed under warranty, so a scooter still under warranty should go to a Voge dealer rather than an independent workshop.

Fluids, tyre pressures and other figures for this scooter are on the SR4 Max page, and the bolt torques are on the SR4 Max torque specifications page.
