Voge Bluetooth pairing: the two connections explained
Why a Voge TFT dash needs two separate Bluetooth connections, the order the manuals give for making them, where the setting sits in the menu, and what to do when navigation does not appear.
The most common difficulty with a Voge TFT dashboard is not that the pairing fails, but that only half of it is made. These instruments require two separate Bluetooth connections, and each provides different functions.
The two connections
Bluetooth 1: the phone to the instrument. This is an ordinary Bluetooth pairing made from the phone's own Bluetooth settings, to a device whose name begins with VOGE-. It provides caller identification, call answering from the switchgear and phonebook display. The dash indicates it with the Bluetooth 1 icon.
Bluetooth 2: the phone to the VOGE Global app. This is a second, low-energy connection made from inside the app, to a device whose name begins with BLE-VOGE-. It is the one that carries navigation to the instrument. When it succeeds the Bluetooth icon in the app turns yellow and the dash shows the Bluetooth 2 icon.
A phone paired only in its Bluetooth settings will show caller ID and no navigation. A phone connected only through the app will do the reverse. Both are required for the full set of functions.
The procedure the manuals give
- Switch the ignition on. The engine need not be running.
- On the phone, open Settings → Bluetooth and select the device beginning with VOGE-.
- Allow access to contacts when the phone requests it. Refusing the request completes the pairing but leaves caller identification blank, which is the most frequent cause of a connection that appears to work but shows nothing.
- Confirm that the instrument now displays the Bluetooth 1 icon.
- Open the VOGE Global app and select the entry beginning with BLE-VOGE-.
- Wait for the app's Bluetooth icon to turn yellow and for the instrument to display Bluetooth 2.
- Press the down key on the left switchgear to reach the navigation page on the instrument.
With navigation running in the app, the corresponding turn instructions appear on the instrument.
Where the setting sits in the menu
The instrument menu is reached by a long press of the confirm button. The DS525X manual defines the press durations precisely: 0.5 seconds is a short press, 2 seconds a long one, which resolves most complaints that a menu will not open.
The second-level motorcycle settings menu runs in this order:
Language → Imperial and metric units → trip meter reset → clock → Bluetooth connection → TPMS → phonebook synchronisation
The Bluetooth entry first displays the instrument's own Bluetooth name, then searches for nearby devices.
The compatibility limitation the manual states
The DS900X manual includes an explicit caution: because Bluetooth versions differ between handsets, the instrument cannot guarantee a connection with every mobile telephone.
This is worth knowing before a long sequence of troubleshooting. Where a particular handset refuses to connect while another connects immediately, the fault may lie with neither device.
When navigation does not appear
- The dash shows Bluetooth 1 only. The app connection was not made. Open the VOGE Global app and connect to the BLE-VOGE- entry.
- The app connects and the arrows do not update. The phone has suspended the app in the background. Battery optimisation is disabled for it in the phone's settings, since the routing is performed by the phone and not by the instrument.
- Two phones present. One connection at a time is supported. A pillion's phone is disconnected first.
- The pairing disappeared after work on the electrics. Disconnecting the battery clears it, along with the clock and the stored tyre pressures. See battery removal, refitting and what it resets.
- The instrument has frozen. A stale pairing can be held by a locked display. See TFT screen freeze and reboot.
Where a connection must be rebuilt, it is removed on both sides: forgotten in the phone's Bluetooth settings and deleted in the app, before starting again.
