Voge engine oil grades, capacities and coolant volumes
Oil quantity, grade and coolant capacity for twenty-one Voge models from the parameter tables, the separate gearbox oil the scooters take, and the two capacities the manuals dispute.
Every figure below is taken from the parameter table of that model's own owner manual. Where two editions of a manual disagree, the discrepancy is set out below the table.

The scooters take a separate gearbox oil
The SR1 uses a CVT with a separate gearbox, and that gearbox holds its own oil: 200 ml of 80W/90 GL-4, refilled with 120 ml at a service. It is easily overlooked because it is not the oil read at the dipstick, and running it dry is an expensive omission.
At a service the SR1 takes 800 ml of engine oil rather than the full 900 ml, since the engine is not dry.
Two capacities the manuals dispute
DS625X. The English manual gives 3.0 L of 10W/40 SL. The French edition of the same manual prints 2.5 L of 10W/40 SG, which are the DS525X figures and therefore suggest a transcription error.
500DS. The discrepancy runs the other way: the English edition prints 2.7 L, while the figure in the table above comes from the French edition.
In both cases the level is established by the sight glass rather than by the quantity poured in, which removes the need to resolve the conflict on the day.
The capacity is a starting point rather than a target
A capacity figure represents what a dry engine holds. After a routine change some oil remains in the galleries and the cooler, so the engine accepts less than the table states.
The established method is to add approximately 200 ml less than the figure, run the engine for a minute, wait two minutes and read the sight glass with the motorcycle upright, then bring the level to the middle of the glass. Overfilling pressurises the crankcase and can force oil into the airbox.
Reading the grade
10W/40 denotes the viscosity. SL, SG and SJ are API service ratings. A wet clutch additionally requires a JASO MA or MA2 rating, which is what prevents the clutch from slipping; a car oil of the same viscosity frequently carries friction modifiers that cause slip.
The manual supplied with the individual motorcycle takes precedence, since figures vary between model years. Manuals for every model are on the documents page.
