Voge riding modes: selection, defaults and model differences

The riding modes available on the DS900X, DS625X and DS525X, the press required to select each, which mode the motorcycle returns to at every start, and where the service reminder is reset.

Riding mode selection on a Voge is governed by conditions that are not obvious from the switch itself. The motorcycle must be stationary, and one of the modes does not remain selected after the ignition is switched off.

DS900X: four modes

The DS900X offers ROAD, RAIN, SPORT and ENDURO. Selection follows two rules:

  • With the motorcycle stationary, a short press of the mode switch moves between ROAD, RAIN and SPORT in any order.
  • With the motorcycle stationary, a long press from any of those three selects ENDURO. A further long press returns to the previous mode.

The motorcycle must be at a standstill. No change occurs while it is moving, which accounts for most reports of an unresponsive mode switch.

ENDURO is not retained

After ENDURO has been selected, switching the ignition off and on again returns the motorcycle to the mode in force beforehand. Selecting ENDURO from ROAD and then cycling the ignition therefore restores ROAD.

The practical effect is that ENDURO must be reselected after every stop that involves switching off. On a long unsurfaced route with a fuel halt, the mode will need to be set again afterwards, in the same way that a disabled ABS re-arms itself.

DS625X and DS525X: two modes and separate switches

These models use a different arrangement. A short press of the mode switch alternates between normal and sport, and normal is the default at every start.

The manuals also refer to an R mode. The French edition states that this mode is not active on the French market, which explains a mode appearing in the documentation but not on the motorcycle.

On these models ABS and traction control are not part of the riding mode. Each has its own switch, both operate on a long press, and both return to active at every ignition cycle.

What the manuals define, and what they do not

The manuals name the modes and describe how to select them. They do not state what a mode alters: no throttle map, power output, traction control threshold or ABS intervention level is documented for any of them.

The difference between ROAD and RAIN is therefore not established by the manufacturer's documentation. What can be said is that mode selection adjusts rider aids rather than the mechanical configuration of the motorcycle, and that no mode alters the available grip.

The instrument menu

The DS900X mode switch sits alongside a menu containing two functions that are otherwise difficult to locate.

Settings, second menu: language, metric or imperial units, page switching, trip meter reset, clock, Bluetooth connection, tyre pressure sensor matching and phone book synchronisation.

My motorcycle: vehicle information and version numbers. A long press of the up key within this menu erases the maintenance markers, which is the service reminder reset.

The tyre pressure matching entry is where TPMS sensors are paired to the motorcycle. The manual names the menu item without setting out a procedure, so pairing new sensors requires either working through the menu on the motorcycle or a dealer.

Disabling ABS is covered separately in turning ABS off, and the shift reminder thresholds appear in DS900X cruise control. Model specifications are on the DS900X and DS625X pages; the source documents are the DS900X owner manual and the DS625X owner manual.
