Voge fuse ratings by model, and the two that are swapped
The seven fuse ratings printed in the Voge manuals, the three that differ between model families, the consequences of fitting the wrong rating and how a symptom identifies the fuse.
Tools
- Fuse puller from the toolkit
Every model listed here carries seven fuses in the same box, protecting the same seven circuits, in the same colours. Three of the ratings differ between the two model families.
The ratings
| Circuit | DS625X, DS900X, DS525X | 650DSX, 500R |
|---|---|---|
| Main supply and charging | 30 A | 30 A |
| ABS pump motor | 25 A | 25 A |
| ABS solenoid valve | 15 A | 10 A |
| Signal: instruments, lights, horn, indicators, side stand switch, starter relay | 15 A | 10 A |
| EFI: ECU, oxygen sensor, diagnostic socket, canister valve, injectors, coil | 10 A | 15 A |
| Radiator fan | 10 A | 10 A |
| Fuel pump | 10 A | 10 A |
The signal and EFI ratings are transposed between the two families. A 15 A and a 10 A sit adjacent to one another in both boxes, and returning them the wrong way round leaves both circuits incorrectly protected without any visible indication.
The consequences of an incorrect rating
A fuse rated too high does not fail when it should. The fuse exists to fail before the wiring does; a 15 A fitted to a circuit designed around 10 A allows a fault to heat the loom instead. No warning is given, which makes this the more serious of the two errors.
A fuse rated too low fails under normal load. On the EFI circuit of a 650DSX, a 10 A in place of the specified 15 A runs correctly at idle and interrupts when the fan, the pump and the injectors draw simultaneously. The behaviour presents as an intermittent electrical fault and leads to unnecessary investigation of sensors.
Identifying the fuse from the symptom
Each rating protects a defined circuit, so the symptom indicates which fuse to examine first:
- Instruments entirely dead: the 30 A main supply.
- Lights, horn and indicators dead while the engine runs: the signal fuse, 15 A or 10 A according to family.
- Fails to start, ABS light lit: the EFI and fuel pump fuses, before the engine is suspected.
- Overheats in traffic with the fan silent: the fan fuse, before the fan itself.
Spare fuses are supplied with the motorcycle
Each manual lists spares stored in the fuse box or the adjacent electrical box, colour coded: green for 30 A, white for 25 A, blue for 15 A and red for 10 A. Their presence is worth confirming at each service, since spares are used and frequently not replaced.
Two instructions the manuals repeat
A fuse that fails repeatedly within a short period indicates a fault rather than a defective fuse. The 500R and 650DSX manuals both direct the rider to stop and contact a dealer rather than continue fitting replacements.
Wire, foil or any other substitute must never be used in place of a fuse. The manuals state explicitly that doing so can set the motorcycle on fire, the purpose of the component being to constitute the weakest point in the circuit.
